FAQ

How Thick is a Kährs Floor?

Kährs multi-layer parquet is available in 15 mm and 7 mm thicknesses.

15 MM
Number of layers: 3 (veneer base, core lamellae and high-grade wood surface layer)
Surface layer: approx. 4 mm
Laid floating on a level, solid surface such as concrete, particleboard or wood.

7 MM, Kährs Linnea
Number of layers: 3 (veneer base, wood fibreboard and high-grade wood surface layer)
Surface layer: approx. 0.5 mm
Laid floating on a level, solid surface such as concrete, particleboard or wood, where the height of existing thresholds, etc., has to be accommodated.

What is Woodloc®?

Woodloc® is the system of mechanical joints that locks boards together almost invisibly without the need for glue. The row of boards align themselves automatically, giving a perfect result that withstands tough use and lasts throughout the floors lifetime. The joints can't open up.

Which Wood Species are the Toughest?

By their very nature, different wood species have different levels of hardness.
The hardness of parquet is measured using the Brinell method. This involves pressing a 10 mm diameter steel ball against the parquet surface with a prescribed force and duration. The indentation that this leaves is then measured, and the Brinell value is calculated. The harder the wood, the higher the Brinell value.

What is the Floor Guard System?

The Floor Guard system is the built-in care you get when you choose a wood floor from Kährs

Strongest Lacquer Ever...

One example of the Floor Guard System is the lacquer we use, which eliminates almost all microscratches. These minute annoying scratches can occur in the lacquer layer when, for example, furniture with worn-out protective pads is dragged across the floor.
The difficulty is finding an extremely strong lacquer that only needs to be applied in a thin layer, allowing the wood floor to retain its natural lustre. All of our development is carried out in co-operation with leading lacquer manufacturers, so we can offer floors that retain their true, natural feel whilst being supremely durable.

Easy-Care UV Oil...

Oil creates a natural feel, brings out the grain of the wood and enriches the colour. Our UV-hardened oil is of the highest quality, and it only needs simple cleaning and maintenance in the home environment - similar to a lacquered floor.

Easy to Clean and Look After

Simple maintenance is another of the Floor Guard System's cornerstones. If coarse dirt is stopped at the entrance, vacuuming or sweeping is all that's needed from day to day - and who wants to spend more time than necessary on cleaning?

Can a Kährs Wooden Floor be Laid over Underfloor Heating?

Good underfloor heating (electric or water-borne) is an ideal heating method, and underfloor heating combined with a wood floor gives optimal domestic comfort.
Kährs wooden floors can be laid over underfloor heating - please see the Contact page and order our magazine, which will be able to give you more information about the special instructions that apply.

Overlay vs Solid flooring?

The wear layer is fully comparable in thichness to a solid floor. Any sanding can only be down to the tongue on a solid and an overlay floor. An overlay floor needs less of the hardwood species because it is only used for the wear layer, not thoughout the whole board.

Will the floor change and move with the seasons?

The construction of the Kährs boards with 3 different layers - top, core and backing, minimises seasonal movement. The boards are dimensionally stable in all climatic conditions resulting in a very stable flooring system for your home.
